Art Brut Split 5″ EP

During a co-headlining tour with the band Art Brut, a split EP was produced and sold at concerts. Originally planned as a split 7 Inch Vinyl, but turned into a CD after a misscommunication. Both bands covered a song by the others and this is where the cover of Bang Bang Rock & roll was born!

Track list:

  1. The Great Escape (Art Brut Cover)
  2. Bang Bang Rock & Roll (We Are Scientists Cover)

The cover of Bang Bang Rock & Roll was later released as part of their b-sides album Crap Attack.

Originally to be a split 7 inch vinyl to be sold during the co-headlining tour in the fall of 2006, but after misscommunications and no vinyl being produced, Chris said:

“Fortunately, only the people of North Carolina are really getting screwed. And that’s not much of a surprise either, is it NC? You guys are always getting screwed, and hard. But so, we swung (I want to say “swang”, but know how wrong it is) into action and will have totally DIY cds waiting for us in Atlanta to stamp with the cover.”

So a stamp appears to have been used on card sleeve containing the CDs, whether this was just a temporary solution for the first gig(s) or continued for all of the tour is unknown. As a number of the CDs sold feature a smudged front cover, it is very likely those were produced using the stamp (obviously they were still fine-tuning the practise..) while the rest seem better but still vary in quality.
